With the constant change in our weather, from chilly temperatures to continuous storms and flooding its easy to feel like the summer will never come, but rest assured, sunnier days are coming as we welcome Spring!

With the warmer days ahead, this calls for some much-needed spring-cleaning of your beauty products and toiletries. Not only will bestselling products help to tidy up your every-day routine, but they will also help you do your bit for the planet one step at a time as it is important to consider the materials used in our everyday products.

The first step to spring cleaning your toiletries is to ditch the plastic. It’s not only harmful to you but the environment too, especially the plastics that are found in sanitary products.

You may be aware that many conventional sanitary products are wrapped in plastic, but what you may not know is that conventional products are also made up of a whole host of plastics and other synthetic materials which could take up to 500 years to biodegrade. This is a vast amount of plastic pollution considering how many sanitary products women use in their reproductive lifetime and how long they remain in the environment for after use. These synthetic materials are also known to cause intimate skin irritations as they prevent your skin from breathing; your vagina is a microclimate so it is important to allow your skin to breathe naturally and be free from contact with any chemicals such as bleach and plastics.

Try switching to Organ(y)c sanitary pads, panty liners and tampons as these are made from 100% certified organic cotton, and do not contain any synthetic materials, bleach or plastics. This natural material is super absorbent (organic cotton can hold up to 10 times its own weight in menstrual fluid), naturally ultra-soft, breathable and hypoallergenic, helping to reduce unwanted intimate skin irritations. Packaged in FSC recyclable cardboard, with protective back sheets which derive from corn-starch and tampon applicators made from 90% sugarcane, you can be sure that your period products are free from any unwanted plastics.

You can also consider switching up your beauty routine by opting for organic beauty products such as the Organ(y)c Beauty Cotton Round Pads, these ‘must have’ products are perfect for your cleansing routine and are free from plastics and bleach making them super soft for use against your skin. They are also packaged in a protective corn-starch bag which is biodegradable along with the cotton round pad.

Another swap to make is plastic cotton buds. So far over 150,000 plastic cotton buds have been cleared from Scotland’s beaches by Marine Conservative Society, as a result Scotland has banned the manufacture and sale of cotton buds with the rest of the UK due to follow in 2020. (Sabrina Barr, The Independent ‘Plastic cotton buds now banned in Scotland in fight against ‘global climate emergency’’, 12 October 2019). At Organ(y)c our cotton buds are made from only 100% certified organic cotton with a recyclable cardboard stem, so you don’t have to worry about your plastic footprint after use.
